ASSMANNSHÄUSER STEEP SILES
High above the Höllenberg hill near Assmannshausen lies our family-run Robert König winery – idyllically situated between forest and vineyards near Assmannshausen on the Rhine. With 80% of our vines located on the steep slopes of Höllenberg, Frankenthal, and the Rüdesheimer Drachenstein, we offer ideal conditions for handcrafted Pinot Noirs of exceptional quality – full of character, meticulously crafted, and deeply rooted in the region.
Höllenberg
The Assmannshäuser Höllenberg vineyard is world-famous. This is due to its unique soils, which create a special microclimate. The phyllite slate soils store heat during the day and release it at night. This creates a distinctive and warm microclimate that is also reflected in the wine. Pinot Noirs from the Höllenberg vineyard present themselves as warm and rounded in the glass.
FRANKENTHAL
The Frankenthal vineyard is the little brother of the famous Höllenberg, and it certainly holds its own. Its soils also contain a lot of slate, but with an increasing proportion of quartzite. The soils are relatively stony and barren, which produces wonderfully purist Pinot Noirs that present themselves as somewhat cooler in the glass.
DRAGONSTONE
The Rüdesheimer Drachenstein vineyard has a high proportion of quartzite in its subsoil and a loess-loam mixture in its topsoil. This results in Pinot Noir grapes from this site producing very intense aromas. Drachenstein is one of the warmest vineyards of the Robert König winery, as it enjoys sunshine from morning till night. Traditionally, this vineyard is therefore the first to be harvested.
